Crêpe Day

I had a wonderful day yesterday! It started with a run (in the cold rain, not so fun) and was followed by a trip to Ikea and then ended with a dinner at my brother-in-law's to celebrate La Chandeleur.  La Chandeleur is also known as Crêpe Day here in France.  It is always 40 days after Christmas and marks the end of the Christmas season.   In addition to this day have some religious significance, it is also said that Chandeleur celebrates the return of sunny days (crêpes symbolize the sun), others say that making crêpes using flour left over from the harvest ensures prosperity in the coming year.

To celebrate this day, my brother-in-law had us over for a crêpe party. He had this fancy crêpe maker which is super fun as it allows everyone to sit around the table and make crêpes together. 
 We started with the main course crêpes and each person could choose which ingredients to add into their crêpe (eggs, cheese, ham).

Then we moved on to dessert crêpes and added a variety of fillings: nutella, bananas, jam, powdered sugar, and American Skippy peanut butter (thanks to my niece who is too darn cute).

It was another fun evening sharing in a French tradition. I am not sure if crêpe machines are available back in the states but I highly recommend checking it out, it reminds me of having fondue parties with friends.
